Testimonials

"I am deeply grateful to Macheo and Strathmore University for transforming my life and inspiring my professional journey. Thanks to their unwavering support and guidance, I am now a communications professional, and I attribute much of my success to the opportunities they opened for me. Macheo not only gave me the chance to grow, but also instilled in me a sense of purpose to give back. Today, my goal is to help others realize their potential and build brighter futures, just as I was empowered to do. Macheo opened doors for me, and it is my hope to continue that legacy by opening doors for many more."

"Being part of the Macheo program has been one of the most fulfilling experiences of my life. It has been light in my own journey and continues to make a difference in many others. The joy and satisfaction that comes from showing up for others is truly unmatched. The Community Service Centre has given me an opportunity to contribute to good works through their initiatives. I am very grateful because it’s a chance to make a difference, however small, and impact lives in ways that resonate far beyond individual acts. As Mother Teresa beautifully said, 'We ourselves feel that what we are doing is just a drop in the ocean. But the ocean would be less because of that missing drop.' "

“Volunteering has not only allowed me to contribute to the betterment of communities, but it has also deepened my understanding of their challenges. Mentoring high school students has been especially meaningful, as I guide them through academic obstacles, offer advice on personal growth, and encourage them to pursue their dreams—an experience that has been as inspiring for me as it has been for them. Volunteering at a children's home has further taught me resilience and the importance of compassion. Beyond these experiences, being part of COP feels like home. The discussions, filled with laughter and a strong sense of purpose, create an atmosphere where humor thrives alongside our collective mission. Whether in serious brainstorming sessions or team-building activities, each moment, fun or focused, has contributed to my growth—both personally and as part of a supportive, purpose-driven community.”

"I used to avoid people, unsure of how to connect, and carried a heaviness that made me constantly doubt myself. Then came an unexpected invitation—"si twende Kitui," a mentoring camp in February. I almost said no, terrified of the unfamiliar, but the somewhat familiar and more adventurous voice in me whispered, “why not? What's the worst that can happen?” That decision changed the entire trajectory of my life. I was so excited about the trip that I didn’t sleep the night before. I left home at 3:50 a.m. to meet up with the two people I was traveling with, and by 4:30, we were on the road. On that first day, I found myself surrounded by strangers who soon felt like family. I laughed like I hadn’t in years, shared stories I’d never dared to tell, and felt, for the first time, that I belonged. That camp wasn’t just a week out; it was a rebirth. I walked in timid and guarded, but I left with a sense of confidence and joy I hadn’t known to be possible. Over the months that followed, I returned to that feeling again and again—at four more camps in places like Kitui, Samburu, and Turkana, each one bringing new lessons, deeper friendships, and more growth. I discovered strengths I didn’t know I had and became someone others could lean on. One day, as I prepared for my first-ever job interview, anxiety got the better of me, and I almost lost faith. But I went back to the COP office, the place that had always been my sanctuary. A simple conversation there shifted everything, reminding me of the person I’d become: someone capable, resilient, and ready for the world. What started as a single step out of my comfort zone became the best journey of my life, and I’ll never look back."
