STEP is an after-school support program in Turkana County, an Arid and Semi-Arid Land (ASAL) located in the north-western part of Kenya. It supports learning where literacy rates are 20% due to challenges like extreme poverty, drought and child marriage.
STEP trains youth to become role models, mentors and beacons of hope in their communities. These youth work with local schools to improve learning outcomes for school children by running after-school activities during weekends and school holidays.
The STEP volunteer program supports educational equity and social transformation. By inspiring youth to engage in meaningful service, the program not only addresses the educational needs of marginalized communities in Kenya but also nurtures a generation of empathetic, skilled, and globally-minded leaders.
Through education, mentorship, and collaboration, we empower communities, bridge inequities, and create a brighter future for all.

Another Kind of Christmas brings the Christmas spirit to some of the most vulnerable homes in Turkana. By mobilizing donations for the Strathmore Christmas Caravan, every December just before Christmas the caravan collects and distributes donations of food, school supplies and clothing to families in Turkana.
We run revision camps for seniors to help them prepare for final exams. These sessions also include career guidance sessions, mentorship and guidance for scholarship application. For younger children, we support numeracy and literacy for ECE.
This program works at improving the quality of life of women and out of schoolgirls in Turkana through skills training and vocational education. It combines basic business skills, numeracy and literacy with life skills training. One key project is the beadwork projects that gives work and a sense of purpose to women. The program also offers psycho-social support through natural conversation, story telling and peer counselling. This program aims to foster economic independence and self-sufficiency among women and girls.
STEP draws local volunteers from local sports teams which use sports to inculcate values to youth and children in Lodwar town. Through workshops and seminars, we bring together team managers coaches, captains from various teams in Turkana County to share knowledge, collaborate and grow together. The workshops provide insights and practical skills to sports leaders helping them sharpen their management, leadership and coaching.
Through character building we work with youth to help them grow in resilience and cultivate their personal values. We introduce importance of mentoring, values, leadership and lead conversations on peer influence among youth.
