#SUCommunityWeek – A Charitable Morning
|By Zeinab Mustafa|
An inspiring individual once famously proclaimed, “Follow your passion and do what you love!” And we, the dynamic members of COP, took those words to heart, embracing them enthusiastically. We thrive on making a positive impact in our beloved community, unleashing boundless joy in the process. Brace yourself for a captivating tale as we dive into the extraordinary world of the Community Outreach Programme, celebrating two decades of altruism and lending a helping hand to those in need.

Enter the realm of #SUCommunityWeek, a vibrant extravaganza where we unleash our unique brand of kindness. Picture a vivid scene on the first day, where a river of compassionate souls generously donated their life-saving potion! The turnout was beyond expectations, for who knows whose life might be touched by this precious gift? As the COP family, we embarked on an exhilarating journey on day two, venturing to the Sisters of Charity, a home to 62 girls nestled in the heart of Langata. The home is inspired by the remarkable Mother Teresa herself. Our mission? To spread love and compassion throughout the community, for that is our unwavering passion.

Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted by the Centre’s devoted sister-in-charge, and without skipping a beat, we plunged headfirst into action. Each of us embraced a unique role, transforming the wearisome into a symphony of purpose. Others danced with sponges to show the world through glittering windows, while some tackled the washing with delight. A culinary brigade worked alongside the kitchen wizards to create gourmet wonders out of raw ingredients. Meanwhile, the floor was transformed into a canvas for mop-wielding artists, while a battalion of dishwashing heroes restored order to the chaos. Our enthusiasm was palpable, but we couldn’t ignore the exhaustion that set in as the day drew to a close. And would you believe it if I told you? We even styled the girls’ hair, enjoying their contagious attitude. Oh, the pleasure of their companionship!

This was no ordinary day, it was the “baby’s day out,” and the girls reveled in the sunshine, their laughter echoing through the air. As we completed our tasks indoors, we eagerly ventured outside, immersing ourselves in their world. We sang together, led by one of the Sisters, and shared heartfelt prayers. These remarkable souls truly embody the essence of angels on earth. Their innocence, warmth, radiant smiles, every facet of their being exuded wholesomeness. We wouldn’t trade this experience for anything. As we discovered their daily routines, starting with a cup of tea at 7:00 in the morning, we marveled at the simplicity that defines their lives. It was a humbling realization, a sorrowful reminder of the blessings bestowed upon us, including the gift of good health. Let us be grateful to the Almighty, cherishing each day with reverence. May their souls be forever blessed!

As the day drew to a close, we bid farewell to our newfound friends. The Sister, entrusted with their well-being, could never leave visitors unattended. Responsibility was her steadfast companion, ensuring nothing would go amiss. And now, dear wanderer, after witnessing these extraordinary moments, how can you resist the magnetic pull of COP? Isn’t it time to join our vibrant family of change-makers?
